Riding for Sue Ryder

Riding for Sue Ryder

Sometime during the afternoon (possibly early evening) of Saturday 23rd September 2017 I will be cursing under my breath as I inch my way up a 3 mile long hill in the middle of Wales. It may well be raining, no doubt there will be a headwind, it will definitely be a struggle. I will have cycled since 6am and will have already covered 100 miles, but what goes up must come down and my reward will be a 14 mile downhill freewheel into the sunset and the Welsh seaside town of Barmouth.

My struggle up the hill in Wales will be temporary. The pain will quickly go away. It will end with a satisfying sense of achievement and a celebratory post ride meal with my mates in a beautiful setting. However, many people face more important battles in life and this is the main reason I will be cycling 115 miles from Birmingham to Barmouth with three of my school friends. We’re raising money for the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope – an amazing place that is part of the Sue Ryder charity providing incredible palliative care and complementary therapy services to support people with life-limiting conditions. Their support covers people (and their family and friends) living in Craven, Airedale, and Wharfedale as well as central, northern and western areas of Bradford.

We’re aiming to raise £500 for Sue Ryder Manorlands, every pound they receive will provide incredible hospice and neurological care. For example £16 could pay for one hour of care to support people to live the fullest life possible. £70 could pay for a nurse’s uniform. £100 could pay for a Manorlands Hospice nurse for a day. £500 could pay for a bed for a day of inpatient care for a Manorlands Hospice patient.

So please make my temporary struggle worthwhile so that those with real problems can receive incredible help from an amazing charity.

Many thanks,

Ian Cormack
